In the December-January 2009-2010 online edition of the National Parent Teacher Association Magazine, Lyn Mikel Brown posted an article entitled, "Taming the Media Stereotypes that Make Kids Aggressive." On February 5th 2009, Lyn Mikel Brown posted a blog which focuses on countering the "mean girl" onslaught with strength-based programs. In the blog, she refers not only to her academic motivation, but her motivation as a mother of a teenage girl, which fuels the importance of combating the images and stereotypes of girlfighting in the media. Her strength-based approach not only works by driving attention away from girlfighting, it provides hope and is based on instilling confidence in girls to make social change and work with other girls (and boys) in a constructive manner.  Click Here to read the post.
